Just an hour and one half drive north of Townsville, Nth Qld lies one of the best fishing destinations on the east coast of Australia.
Hinchinbrook Channel, a 50km expanse of water stretching from Lucinda to Cardwell, separating Hinchinbrook Island from the mainland.

These sheer mountains offer all year round protection from varying winds and has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Add to this a total netting ban and you have one of the best fisheries in the country.

A myriad of creeks, rivers and flats, Hinchinbrook and its surrounding waters are a haven to nearly every tropical species with one of the largest populations of barramundi on the east coast of Australia. With its clear waters and over 100km of shallow mangrove lined flats Rob offers excellent sight-fishing for barra through to permit.

Being fed from the ocean at both ends, the Channel is a unique and diverse environment which can be fished successfully on any range of tides as there is no strong tidal current on its flats, so big tides are not a problem.

Deep water throughout the channels entire length, provides excellent action for pelagic species such as queenfish, various trevally, mackeral and even tuna coming in to feed on the vast bait schools which inhabit these waters.

With over 100 creeks and rivers in the Hinchinbrook region there are endless options for locations to fish, not only giving you variety, but the best action at the time with prevailing conditions and tides.

Due to no commercial fishing in these waters, numbers of schooling fish such as barra, salmon and permit are flourishing, with catches rivaling the action you would expect from more remote destinations.

Rob’s knowledge of these waters has been backed by success in the ‘99 “Hinchinbrook Tag and Release Tournament” a lure and fly only event. Competing amongst some of this regions finest anglers Rob took out honours in the following categories:

Tours are conducted all year round, with all trips departing Townsville or by prior arrangement. Trips range from day trips to extended all inclusive packages to 7 days or more.
